Wrestling Fans,
Welcome back Birch Run Wrestling fans.
Just wanted to update everyone on the progress and preparation that has been taking place through the first week of practices.
The team is getting better each day and the focus for the most part has been great.
We need to make sure our athletes are staying healthy and receiving proper treatments for small bumps and bruises.
If we can manage that we should be very competitive this season.
Our goals as usual are set very high and without the support of parents and fans we would not enjoy the successes we have had over the past several seasons.
I am going to outline some different items in the following, important dates, program milestones and wrestling alum in college.
IMPORTANT DATES
December 2-3: Marine overnight
December 10: First competition Linden or Bay City Central
December 23: OFF for Christmas
December 26: Return to Practice
December 28: Birch Run Invite
January 25: Parent’s Night
February 1: Patron’s night
February 8: Team Districts
February 19: Parent’s Meeting 6:30 pm
Program Milestones to watch for;
The team is gunning for its third straight district title along with aiming for a repeat as conference and county champions.
Individually Seniors Josh Hobson and Caleb Slavik are on pace to become two of the top wrestlers in the history of Birch Run in terms of wins.
Hobson can eclipse the 150 wins early in the season while Caleb Slavik is on pace to become only the second wrestler to surpass the 200 win mark in a Birch Run uniform.
Juniors Lake Bennett, Damian Johnson, and Adam Bishop will all be in search for their 100th victory.
Wrestling in college;
Trevor Timmreck is a freshman at Olivet and suffered an injury setback early in the season separating his shoulder and hasn’t been able to compete as of yet.
Josh Crawford is starting at 184 for the Comets and has enjoyed some big early season victories. The Comets are currently ranked #22 NCAA Div. III and have defeated the #11 and #19 teams already this season.
Craig Kelly is on the Mott roster, however I do not have an update on his season at this time.
I hope everyone enjoys a fun, positive, and rewarding season.
Thanks again for your support of the Birch Run Wrestling Program.
Sincerely,
Birch Run Wrestling Staff

Wrestling Fans,
The season is now over half complete. The team boasts a 22-1 record and ranked
5th by the MWA rankings. The competition is only going to get stronger as we
move forward. The team finished 4th in the most recent tournament at New
Lothrop. The tournament featured 6 state ranked teams along with nationally
ranked St. Johns. Trevor Timmreck captured the lone championship at 285
recording a pin in the finals. Josh Hobson wrestled well and captured his 100th
win as a junior. The B-team is now into the bulk of its schedule wrestling on
Friday night and capturing 5 individual titles. This week is huge for the team,
wrestling conference rivals Caro and Frankenmuth at home and hosting the Saginaw
County Tournament at the Birch Run Expo Center. Please show your support and
come watch the Panthers compete! Soon we will be selling wrestling shirts and
logo stickers. Shirts - $10 Logo Stickers are $5 a piece or a set for $10. We
still have some hats available for $20.
12/22/10
A quick start has given the panthers a 15-1 record defeating 3 ranked teams
along the way. The panthers have moved up the rankings quickly behind solid team
performances. Seniors Evan McCann and Trevor Timmreck along with junior Caleb
Slavik have hit the 100 win mark. Sophomore Damian Johnson defeated 2 ranked
wrestlers to reach the finals of the Genesee county tournament. The panthers set
a new standard at the tournament with 5 finalists. Joining Damian in the finals
were Lake Bennett, Caleb Slavik, James Hartley, and Trevor Timmreck.
Tournament Results
Birch Run Invitational 2nd Place
Linden Team Tournament 1st Place
Genesee County 3rd Place
Reminders
Saginaw County week is coming quick January 11-15
We need parent volunteers for breakfast that week. We generally like to work in
groups of 2-3 familys per day. We are also going to need help for the Tournament
doing concessions and table help. If you know anybody that would want to help
please let me know. I understand you want to watch you boy wrestle the more help
the more shifts and the smoother things go.
Wishes
The Birch Run wrestling coaching staff would like to thank everyone for their
support. We would also like to wish you a safe and happy holiday season.

Wrestlers, parents and fans the 2011 wrestling season is right around the
corner. The team returns 12 starters from last years team that reached a school
record 30 dual victories providing a solid core to begin the season.
It looks like this year’s team will carry nearly 40 members making the wrestling
room an interesting place come time for wrestle offs! We will again wrestle a
varsity A and a varsity B schedule that will be released Wednesday November 10,
2010 and will be available on this website and the schools website.
I hope everyone is getting as excited for the season as the coaching staff is.
We anticipate great things for the 2010-2011 season.
Several wrestlers spent their offseason getting some type of mat time gaining
invaluable experience.
Camps
Damian Johnson – J. Robinson 12 day intensive camp
Lake Bennett – CMU camp
Mitch Franklin – CMU, Rob Wallers 21 Day camp, 2 day camp, and 4 day camp
Adam Bishop – Jeff Jordan State Champ Camp

National Competition

Trevor Timmreck – Disney Duals
*Both wrestlers earned all-american status
Several others participated in other short camps and summer dual league in New
Lothrop. Others sought out tournaments from St. Ignace to Battle Creek. All of
these things will pay off come time to step on the mat. If I forgot some one I
am sorry!
I am looking forward to your support behind the wrestlers as it is all needed.
The grueling season wears on a wrestler; support from fans and parents alike
helps each of them keep pushing.
Mark these important dates on the calendar
November 11 – Nutrition meeting
November 15 – First Day of practice
November 19 – inter squad scrimmage and Marine Overnight Training
December 1- Assembly duals Mt. Morris 1 pm
December 4 – Home Dual tournament

Consider the following quote;
If you want to be a champion you cannot have any kind of an outside negative
force coming in to deflect you. - Arnold Schwarzenegger
We as a wrestling program need to eliminate distractions as our team moves
forward each day. Distractions during wrestling include some of the little
things that we may not consider.
Grades, if a student is not making the grades it is a negative force deflecting
him and the team.
If a wrestler is cutting or maintaining weight and a cake is put in front of him
that is another negative force deflecting him and the team.
Families within a Family; I envision a team who becomes as close as a family,
however some form of outside support is needed. I encourage families to praise
their wrestler not for wins and losses but for the sacrifices and hard work they
are putting in. Focusing on other things such as making the lineup or decisions
made on the mat are a negative force and is deflecting the team from its
ultimate goal.
Together the 2010-2011 season will bring many great memories. This team will
accomplish many goals and individuals will shine. Let’s continue to grow Birch
Run Wrestling in a positive way!
I can not wait to see everyone and get this season started.
Thank You,
Bart Bennett
